Ok, so if you've been up to date on the news, you have already heard that a crazy alliance is being formed under the name WAC or the Wholesale Applications Community. The plan is to make some kind of app store that all makers could then access making it easier for both phone owners and developers to create and buy applications for portable devices.
There are a number of problems I see with this plan. First, when you think about it, AT&T will never team up with their biggest rivalry Verizon Wireless. They don't agree on anything! Then you have the other companies that will have a hand in the game, Sony, Samsung, LG, etc, and they are all just supposed to get along?
Secondly, even if all these obstacles could be overcome and magically all these companies find some way to agree on how the WAC will be run, there will be tremendous challenges in making it something that will run anywhere near as smooth as Apple's App store for a multitude of reasons. The easiest of these reasons would be that the Apps will either need to be separated by the capabilities of all these competing hardwares or all the hardware will have to have similar specifications such that one won't neccessarily shine over the other. Erhm, how do you pull that off in the most competitive marketplace in the world? You don't!
This idea is bound to fail, and my guess is, it won't even make a hiccup in the global wireless market if it ever even comes to fruition!

The WAC or Wholesale Applications Community's plan to kill Apple's App store won't work!
